A Vision for the Future:

Smart 'Village-Cities' Built by the Next Generation.

We all know it, we feel it deeply—profound change is not just needed, it’s vital and urgent. But not through minor greenwashing campaigns or micro-adjustments to tax policies. The change we need must turn the world as we know it upside down. We are told we are in the midst of Earth's 6th mass extinction, and our economy is consuming and wasting resources at a rate far beyond that which the biosphere can replenish. The consequence? Species loss, critical habitat destruction and a trend toward total ecosystems collapse.

Meanwhile, our institutions are buckling under the weight of corruption, public services are stretched to their breaking point and many big businesses expanding unchecked. People exist in a state of perpetual busyness and fear—disconnected from nature, from community, and from themselves. Many feel hopeless, disempowered and a loss of purpose and meaning to their lives. This growing disconnection and breakdown contributes to the mental disharmony, anxiety and depression the new normal, which we see in so many individuals today.

But there are solutions, existing now or within reach, especially with the advent of Artificial Intelligence.

Imagine a world where technology helps humanity live in harmony with nature—a world where small, sustainable cities provide everything people need, from food and shelter to education and healthcare, while freeing them to focus on creativity, science, and solving the world’s greatest challenges. This vision may sound like something from a science fiction story, but it’s one we believe the next generation—you, the children of 2024—can help bring to life.

The future is in your hands, and together, we can build a better world for everyone. This is not an impossible dream, but a practical path forward that builds on ideas shared by visionaries over the centuries, beginning with Plato's ideal Atlantis, Ebenezer Howard's Garden City design, Walt Disney's EPCOT vision, Jacque Fresco's Venus Project and many more.

These ideas are evolving, and we believe the future is closer than we think, with many pieces already in place. Your generation, the children of 2024, will have the chance to take these pieces and turn them into reality.

The Smart Village-City: A Model for the Future

In this future, cities are smaller and more sustainable, with 3,000-5,000 citizens living in each community. These village-cities will be fully self sufficient, relying on clean energy sources and AI-managed systems to provide utilities, manage waste, and maintain the infrastructure. Food will be produced in hi-tech vertical farming towers and also in ground based permaculture. Prefabricated housing, along with all transportation vehicles, electrical goods, will all be built in the cities own automated factories. Everything is designed to work in balance with the natural world, allowing nature to thrive around, between and within the cities.

Imagine looking out from your window and seeing vast areas of rewilded land, filled with trees, rivers, and wildlife—all preserved because of the smart design of your city.

A Dual Economy for a Time of Transition

In the future, we imagine a shift toward a world where resources are shared, and everyone has access to what they need, a vision many Star Trek 'Earth Federation' lovers, and Venus Project enthusiasts adore.

But before we can get there, we need to transition gradually.

The idea is to have two economic systems working together:

  • Capitalism Beneath the City: Below the city, automated 'gigafactories' will engage in the global capitalist economy, producing goods and buying resources when needed. This allows the city to participate in the current world system while reducing the need for human labor.

  • Above-Ground Resource Economy: Above the surface, all citizens will have access to essential resources—food, housing, healthcare, and education—without cost. Automation and AI will take care of these basic needs so that people are free to focus on creative, scientific, and meaningful pursuits. This transition helps ease society toward a more sustainable, fair economy over time.

The goal is to show how we can gradually move from our current systems to a future where money is no longer necessary, and all people have the freedom to explore their passions and solve the world’s problems.

Science, Creativity, and Collaboration

In these cities, the citizens focus on two main things:

  • Science and Exploration: Groups of citizens work together to tackle the biggest challenges of our time—climate change, health, energy, and more. There will be a spirit of teamwork and discovery, much like what you might imagine from the crew of Star Trek's Starfleet. Their mission? To save and restore the planet, one breakthrough at a time.

Arts and Human Expression: Just as important as science is creativity. These cities will celebrate art, music, and human expression. People will be free to create, explore new ideas, and share their work with others. This blend of science and art is essential to a thriving, healthy community.

AI and the Future of Humanity

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play a key role in managing the city's infrastructure. From energy to water to waste management, AI systems will ensure that everything runs smoothly, allowing humans to focus on their passions and projects. While sentient AI is still a thing of the future, we imagine a time when AI will take its place as an equal partner with humanity, working alongside us to solve problems and build a better world. For now, AI will manage systems in the background, but the potential for it to become more involved in human life is exciting and offers endless possibilities for the future.

The Federation of Smart Cities

Each village-city will be independent, but part of a larger global alliance, a 'Federation' of Smart Village-Cities. This Federation will allow cities to work together, sharing resources, ideas, and solutions. The Federation will be built on cooperation and a shared goal of improving life on Earth. While each city-state will have its own unique culture and focus, they will all share a commitment to sustainability, technology, and human potential.

Inspiring the Next Generation

This vision is not for a distant utopia, but for a future we can begin building today. While we may not have all the technology and systems in place right now, your generation will help bring it to life. You have the power to create change—whether through science, art, or simply reimagining what our cities and societies can look like.

The journey has already begun, and with your ideas, passion, and creativity, you can be part of building a better future for all. Let’s not wait for 'locked in motion' governments or institutions to change the world, but rather make it your own and work together to create the first smart cities, step by step, and transform the way we live, work, and care for the planet and each other.
